Proven Leadership, Rooted in Experience

Judge Rodriguez Key brings a lifetime of resilience, public service, and unwavering commitment to justice to the bench. Raised by a disabled father living with muscular dystrophy, Judge Rodriguez Key grew up in poverty, relying on Social Security and other government assistance programs to survive. At just 12 years old, he began working to support himself, and by 14, he was living in a travel trailer with his 16-year-old sister.

Despite these early challenges, Judge Rodriguez Key excelled. He graduated in the top 2% of his high school class, ranked 11th overall, while serving in student government and earning honors as captain of the football team and an all-district athlete in both football and track. With determination and grit, he went on to put himself through Texas A&M University and earned his law degree from Baylor Law School.

With 24 years of legal experience, Judge Rodriguez Key has served as a prosecutor, defense attorney, and for 12 years he has served as a County Court Judge. During his time on the bench, not a single one of his decisions has been overturned on appeal, a testament to his fairness, diligence, and sound legal judgment.

Judge Rodriguez Key has never shied away from hard work. When the COVID-19 pandemic closed courtrooms across the county, he was one of only three County Court Judges in Bexar County who continued working in person at the courthouse, ensuring justice remained accessible to those without Zoom or internet access. He also stepped up to take on family violence cases to help reduce the pandemic-era backlog.

His courtroom is home to the county’s animal cruelty docket, and he proudly partners with Bexar County Sheriff Salazar to supervise the Bexar Gives Back program, which offers second chances and community service opportunities to nonviolent offenders.

As the most senior criminal County Court Judge seeking reelection, Judge Rodriguez Key is proud to be running for his fourth term. His career has been defined by a deep sense of service and a commitment to protecting the community while ensuring fairness for all.

Judge Key Rodriguez has been married to his Wife Jamie for 24 years. Together they are raising their two teenage boys Christian and Alex.

With your support, Judge Rodriguez Key will continue to bring experience, integrity, and compassion to the courtroom every day.
